If you didn’t see any of the Finals on the weekend, you missed out on some crackers!  Three teams winning through to the Grand Finals from four finalists – that is a reasonable strike rate.  Here is how the respective teams fared:

MJFC Under 12 Griffins

Murrumbeena JFC Under 12 Griffins 4.5.29 def Ashwood 2.4.16

In a fantastic result for the club, these boys displayed the courage and discipline that is required to win a big final in challenging circumstances.  Dominant for the first three quarters, the boys were coming home with the wind in the final quarter with what appeared to be a comfortable 15 point lead.  However, when their opponents kicked the first goal of the match into the wind midway through the last quarter and appeared to be building some momentum, Jackson Laing drilled through the sealer with 3 minutes to play to ice the game.

If you want to see a great brand of footy, get behind these boys in the Grand Final next Sunday at 12.30pm at Essex Heights Reserve!

MJFC Under 12 Lionesses

Murrumbeena JFC Under 12 Lionesses 3.2.20 def Dingley JFC 1.7.13

This match was certainly not one for the faint hearted.  With the scores tied at the end of full time, it took the respective team managers 5 minutes to refer to the SMJFL by-laws to determine how the match was to be decided – the answer – an extra 5 minutes at each end with no time on.  After scoring one goal between the two teams during 60 minutes of normal time, the floodgates opened over the extra 10 minutes, with 3 goals scored during that time.  Fortunately, our girls scored two of those goals to run out winners by 7 points, and earn a well deserved Grand Final Birth!

Get down to see these girls at King George Reserve at 12pm on Sunday in their quest to be the first female junior premiership team for Murrumbeena JFC!

MJFC Under 15

Murrumbeena JFC Under 15 4.5.29 def East Brighton Vampires 4.3.27

Another thrilling encounter took place at St Pauls McKinnon Oval 1.  These boys were staring down the barrel when East Brighton claimed their fourth goal of the morning, and their second into the wind, midway through the second quarter to take a 3 goal lead.  However, never to be discounted, these boys stuck firm in the last five minutes of the second quarter to respond with a goal of their own to go into the half time break with the momentum and only a two goal deficit.

Two goals to Murrumbeena against the wind to a solitary behind in the third quarter set the scene for a thrilling final quarter.  Whilst both teams had their opportunities, a goalless final 20 minutes saw the Murrumbeena boys run out winners by 2 points.

The boys now have the week off whilst East Brighton take on Mordialloc Braeside to determine who we meet in the Grand Final on 2nd September.

MJFC Under 17

South Melbourne Districts 6.10.46 def Murrumbeena JFC 5.7.37

After an unbelievably even season at the top end of this division, anything was going to happen in this game, and it did!  An 8 point lead at 3 quarter was unfortunately not enough to hold off a rampaging opponent in the last quarter, with their 3 goal to 1 effort enough to end the season for these courageous boys.

Congratulations to every young man in this team on their efforts this season and indeed throughout their entire careers at the Murrumbeena Junior Football Club.  We hope that we see most of you continue your journeys with the senior club, starting with our new under 19 team next year!
